Famous Blue Raincoat In their last concert of the 20th century the Nits played about 10 Leonard Cohen covers in the Paradiso in Amsterdam. For this occasion the band was extended with two female singers, a violinist and an extra guitar player. This song is Henk's favorite Leonard Cohen song and it gives a good impression of that evening. | Amsterdam 29.12.1999 | Dennis 15.10.2004 | download (6122 kb) |
The Infant King This is the best Michiel song in my opinion. He must have liked it himself a lot too, because he rerecorded it for his solo album and used the title for the whole album. At the Nits INC convention in 2000 he played the song again for the first time in more than 10 years. This particular version was recorded during the Adieu, Sweet Bahnhof Tour. | Mulhouse 30.11.1984 | Dennis 14.10.2004 | download (5258 kb) |
Athens This beautiful song was played at most concerts in the 1974 Tour. It proves that having two keyboard players doesn't mean that every song has to sound bombastic. Audience recording. | Oss 25.11.2003 | Dennis 13.10.2004 | download (6072 kb) |
A Touch Of Henry Moore The Alankomaat Tour featured some very innovative and unique arrangements of old favorites. This a a great example of that. Audience recording (yes really!). | Delft 21.11.1998 | Dennis 12.10.2004 | download (6609 kb) |
Clean Shirt In Paris Simply a beautful song that remained great when performed live. | Roskilde 03.07.1983 | Dennis 11.10.2004 | download (4168 kb) |
The Train (banjo version) The Train was not regularly played in the wool Tour and if it made the set, it was the simple short version, except for one night in Beverwijk… Henk picked the banjo instead of the guitar and the result was this long, hectic country & westerrn version. The flute is played by Leona. It's a messy version, but a lot of fun! Audience recording. | Beverwijk 09.12.2000 | Dennis 10.10.2004 | download (7268 kb) |
Heaven At the end of the Nest Tour this Talking Heads cover was regularly played. Audience recording. | Den Haag 10.05.1996 | Dennis 09.10.2004 | download (4193 kb) |
Woman Cactus An great version of this song. For this radioshow the Nits performed in a stripped down setting, years before the Unplugged-phenomenon. Several songs were redone and this one changed the most drastically. | Countdown Café 00.10.1984 | Dennis 08.10.2004 | download (4217 kb) |
Letter To E (with Luka Bloom) A unique collaboration between Nits and Luka Bloom. Both were present to record a Twee Metter Sessie for the radio and they decided to do one song together. Luka Bloom added backing vocals and some atmospheric guitar to this song. | Twee Meter Sessie 28.06.1998 | Dennis 07.10.2004 | download (6346 kb) |
An Eating House During the Ting Tour this song was played a few times in a very strange, short arrangement, which is absolutely different than any other version of this song. Audience recording. | Groningen 25.03.1993 | Dennis 06.10.2004 | download (2282 kb) |
The Infinite Shoeblack For this Leidsekade Live radio performance the band only had a small piano and some percussion as instruments. They rearranged a few songs on the spot and played some great versions of them. This reduction to piano and percussion gave the band the idea to make the Ting album. This song is a great example of this historic radio performance. | Leidsekade Live 21.04.1991 | Dennis 05.10.2004 | download (5176 kb) |
Sorrow One of the most beautiful Nits songs ever. Unfortunately it was only played during the dAdAdA tour. It's about time the band digs this one up again.. | Karlsruhe 01.11.1994 | Dennis 04.10.2004 | download (4826 kb) |
New Flat A powerful version recorded at the big Roskilde Festival in Denmark as part of the Omsk Tour. This concert was meant as their break into Scandinavia, but outside Finland the band never became big over there. | Roskilde 03.07.1983 | Dennis 03.10.2004 | download (3456 kb) |
Marmor, Stein Und Eisen Bricht This is a cover of a German song by Dravi Deutscher. The band already played it at some concerts in the late '70s, but resurrected it for the German part of the New Flat tour. | West-Berlin 01.06.1981 | Dennis 02.10.2004 | download (4985 kb) |
Angel Of Happy Hour This Wool song was played fantastically in concert. This version was broadcast on the radio and has great sound, so all the parts can be heard perfectly. It's clear how many touches every band member adds to this song. Unfortunately this version is before Leona joined the band and therefore does not feature her Irish tin whistle. | Stuttgart 03.06.2000 | Dennis 01.10.2004 | download (5621 kb) |
The Light I always preferred the live version over the studio version. The build-up of the song is much better. This is one was recorded for Finnish radio early in the Alankomaat tour. | Helsinki 24.03.1998 | Dennis 30.09.2004 | download (6655 kb) |
Frozen Fred Recorded during the Tent Tour. This song was only played during this tour and even then it was often omitted, so it's pretty rare. This version is much more rock-based than on the album. | Amsterdam 29.12.1979 | Dennis 29.09.2004 | download (3037 kb) |
Suddenly I Met Your Face / Take Five This was recorded during the Work Tour. The song was regularly played from 1980 to 1985 and always in combination with the old Dave Brubeck pop-jazz song Take Five. | Haarlem 02.04.1982 | Dennis 28.09.2004 | download (3288 kb) |
Avec Une Aile Cassée In 1995 Nits recorded a French version of Broken Wing with French singer Kent. This was released in France on single and on the Nest album. At a live radio concert in the Netherlands they played this version (without Kent). It's not only rare because it's a french version, it's also one of the few times they played the song in a fast version. Later they rearranged it with slower music and eventually dropped the song completely from cocnerts, because they were unhappy with that version as well in the end. | Denk Aan Henk 13.10.1995 | Dennis 27.09.2004 | download (3859 kb) |
Soap Bubble Box Voice Male (belgian group) does all the instruments a capella while Henk sings. | 1998 | Jolanda 26.09.2004 | download (1327 kb) |
