Robinson This is the version of Robinson with the original lyrics, before they had to be 'de-Paul-Simon-ized'. It also is a slightly different mix. This version was played during a radio interview some time before Alankomaat was released. | Demo 1997 | Dennis 09.11.2004 | download (3335 kb) |
Henk Hofstede – Two Skaters This was recorded very recently during Henk's solo-tour. This is an amazing piano-version of Two Skaters, one of the many stripped down Nits songs he plays in this tour. If you have a chance go see him before the tour ends in may 2005! Audience recording. | Den Bosch 03.11.2004 | Dennis 08.11.2004 | download (4020 kb) |
Nits & Fay Lovski – Tons Of Ink Dutch singer Fay Lovski guested during a couple of songs at the Den Bosch concert in 1983. This is a good example of one of the songs she helped out with. | Den Bosch 15.06.1983 | Dennis 07.11.2004 | download (3871 kb) |
Nits & Kent – With A Little Help From My Friends French singer Kent guested during the Paris concert of the Ting Tour to sing along with this Beatles' Cover. A few years later he would record a couple of songs in French with the Nits. Audience recording. | Paris 19.12.1992 | Dennis 06.11.2004 | download (3375 kb) |
Looking For A Friend This was probably played as a joke during a rehearsal around 1979. The original version of this song was released on a single together with 'Tell Me Baby' as the follow-up to 'Yes Or No'. This punk-version is hilariously out-of-character for the Nits… | 1979 | Dennis 05.11.2004 | download (3681 kb) |
Tombe La Neige A very rare full version of this cover from French artist Adamo from 1964. They sometimes played a few lines of this song, but this is, to my knowledge, the only complete version. The almost drunk sounding sing-a-long parts are funny and provided a fitting end to the concert in Tilburg. Audience recording. | Tilburg 25.05.1996 | Dennis 04.11.2004 | download (5725 kb) |
Nothing To Do This is from the same sessions as the Bauhaus Chair demo. It's a beautiful little tune, but would be totally out of place on the New Flat album. | Demo 1980 | Dennis 03.11.2004 | download (1854 kb) |
Liesbeth List – Brief Aan Mia This is of course a Dutch version of Letter To E. Henk wrote that song for his Swiss' friend Eric's wedding in the early '90s. He gave a Dutch version to singer Liesbeth List, who recorded it for an album. Famous Dutch singer Frank Boeijen provides backing vocals. Apparently Henk really likes this song, because later it was also released on the Alankomaat album in an English version. | CD 1995 | Dennis 02.11.2004 | download (5642 kb) |
Nights In White Satin The Nits often played this song during concerts and they always played a beautiful version of it. Usually it was short, but this is one of the most complete versions I've heard. It was recorded during the In The Dutch Mountains Tour, but the tape didn't specify the date and location. | 1987/1988 | Dennis 01.11.2004 | download (4537 kb) |
In The Dutch Mountains This is the 'bull-bull'-version of the Alankomaat Tour. Henk played the bull-bull, an Indian instrument that most resembles a typewriter with strings. Together with Rob's tabla's the Indian atmosphere was complete. Early in the tour Henk continued to play the bull-bull throughout the whole song, but later on in the tour he switched to acoustic guitar for the second half. This is a performance which features the latter version. Audience recording. | Delft 21.11.1998 | Dennis 31.10.2004 | download (4767 kb) |
Michiel Peters – Magpie This song was released on Michiel's solo album (on the CD only). It was written by Henk Hofstede, who played all the instruments on that version. This demo recording features a different arrangement with the added guitar as the most prominent change. It also features Michiel messing up the lyrics a few times… | Demo 1987/1988 | Dennis 25.10.2004 | download (3162 kb) |
Slip Of The Tongue This song wasn't usually part of the Giant Normal Dwarf Tour setlists. This version shows that with just three people they managed to play this song, although there are many better versions from other tours. The fact that it's very rare for this tour makes up for this. Audience Recording. | Amsterdam 14.01.1991 | Dennis 24.10.2004 | download (4579 kb) |
Nickel And Wood This was the B-side of the Bild Am Sonntag single, later also released on Quest. It was played live several times during the Adieu, Sweet Bahnhof Tour. | Mulhouse 30.11.1984 | Dennis 23.10.2004 | download (4664 kb) |
Stips – Medley This was recorded during Robert Jan Stips' first solo tour following the Egotrip album. He played songs from all over his career and this medley combines three: Instead Of.. (from dAdAdA), Tomorrow Is Another Day (from U.P.) and Cars And Cars (from Ting). His band consisted of Martin Bakker on bass and Roy Bakker on drums. Audience Recording. | Den Haag 30.11.1996 | Dennis 22.10.2004 | download (7603 kb) |
The Bauhaus Chair Although released (and rewritten) in 1988, this song was already very old. It went back to the earliest Nits days in 1974-1975. It was decently recorded in 1980 together with a few other very sweet sounding songs for the New Flat album. Along with those other songs it wasn't used. The album would have sounded very different if they had! | Demo 1980 | Dennis 21.10.2004 | download (1347 kb) |
Unpleasant Surprise This fun Michiel Peters song was played at almost all concerts between 1983 and 1985. This is a recording from the Omsk Tour. | Roskilde 03.07.1983 | Dennis 20.10.2004 | download (3957 kb) |
Wall In China This song was the B-side to Three Sisters. During the Alankomaat Tour it was played very often. It's a beautiful song that also sounded great live. Audience Recording. | Bergen Op Zoom 25.04.1994 | Dennis 19.10.2004 | download (5475 kb) |
Nescio The Ting tour featured an amazing and spectacular version of Nescio. It remains fascinating from the gypsy opening to the hectic main part and endinding with the two percussionists on timpani. Audience recording. | Hengelo 18.02.1993 | Dennis 18.10.2004 | download (9462 kb) |
Tent Before the band went to the studio for the Tent album, they recorded demo versions in their rehearsal place. Many songs have different arragements than the later released versions and in my opinion are better that how they turned up on the album. | Demo 1979 | Dennis 17.10.2004 | download (2501 kb) |
Fly Me To The Moon / Giant Normal Dwarf A great version from the Nest Tour of Giant Normal Dwarf with a hilarious intro. Audience recording. | Tilburg 25.05.1996 | Dennis 16.10.2004 | download (4870 kb) |
