Tent
Before the band went to the studio for the Tent album, they recorded demo
versions in their rehearsal place. Many songs have different arragements
than the later released versions and in my opinion are better that how
they turned up on the album.Demo 1979 Dennis

(2501 kb)Different Kitchen
This demo shows how Different Kitchen was originally based on the music for Skateboard Boy.Demo 1980 Dennis

(2671 kb)Nothing To Do
This is from the same sessions as the Bauhaus Chair demo. It's a beautiful
little tune, but would be totally out of place on the New Flat album.Demo 1980 Dennis

(1854 kb)The Bauhaus Chair
Although released (and rewritten) in 1988, this song was already very old.
It went back to the earliest Nits days in 1974-1975. It was decently
recorded in 1980 together with a few other very sweet sounding songs for
the New Flat album. Along with those other songs it wasn't used. The album
would have sounded very different if they had!Demo 1980 Dennis

(1347 kb)So Hard To Say No
A demo for the Work album, just Henk, an electric piano and a drum machine.

(3395 kb)Dark Room
A great pop-song that was played live often between 1981 and 1985, but it was never released on an album.Demo 1981 Dennis

(3683 kb)Indoor Painting, Outdoor Sketching
A nice alternate version of this song. It's less synth-based and Rob
is using bongo's instead of regular drums, which is something unique
for this period. This was played at all Work Tour concerts, so it was
initially recorded in 1981, the version on Omsk is probably a
rerecording from 1982-1983.Demo 1981 Dennis

(2403 kb)Nieuwjaarswens Uit China
A funny recording the band made for people of their record company.
For non-dutch speakers it's not as funny, but the lyrics are a New
Year's wish from China with several references to communism and the
Great Leader. Henk looks back on 1982 with all their European travels
and he mentions at the end that Robert Jan ewill stay with the band.

(3095 kb)Heartache
This song was played at all concert of the Kilo tour (late '83 - early '84). This is the studio version and it was very likely recorded for the Kilo album. It's a great example how the album might have sounded if the band wouldn't have rearranged most songs to less poppy, more quiet versions.Demo 1983 Dennis

(3194 kb)Acres Of Tintoretto
This is the original arrangement of Acres Of Tintoretto. Most songs from
the Kilo album were first recorded in uptempo versions, but this is the
only one of which the original version is circulating. In concert the band
used to play it similar to this version, it wasn't until 1989 before they
played it in the jazzy quiet arrangement.Demo 1983 Dennis

(5580 kb)Work For Memory
A typical Henk song from the Kilo or Adieu period. My best bet would be that it's an outtake from Adieu, Sweet Bahnhof. One little melody that pops up about half way through reminds me of Dapperstreet. Henk's singing is enthusiastic, even though the lyrics don't seem to be completely finished yet. If developed a bit further, this would not have sounded out of place on an official release from that period.Demo 1983 or 1984 Dennis

(5454 kb)Master My Moods
A beautiful, typical Michiel Peters song. From the sound of it I think
it's demo from the Adieu, Sweet Bahnhof period. It sounds a bit
similar to some other songs (e.g. Villa Homesick) and maybe that's the
reason why it remained unreleased.Demo 1983/1984 Dennis

Not too different from the released version, but nice to hear anyway!Demo 1986 Dennis

A very early version of this song, recorded sometime during the summer of 1987.

(4491 kb)In The Dutch Mountains
This is an early studio take of this song. Mostly it's similar to the
released version, except that it's a bit slower and it features a very
strange intermezzo just before the slow section. Also the return to
the fast part is a bit different and the ending is not as it turned
out. After the ending there's a bit of another take of the ending.
It's nice to hear other samples than 'mountains' and 'buildings' from
the same source.Demo 1987 Dennis

(4933 kb)Michiel Peters – Magpie
This song was released on Michiel's solo album (on the CD only). It was
written by Henk Hofstede, who played all the instruments on that version.
This demo recording features a different arrangement with the added guitar
as the most prominent change. It also features Michiel messing up the
lyrics a few times…

A very early version of this song the ended up on Nest. This was probably recorded before the dAdAdA album.Demo 1994 Dennis

(3195 kb)Pitter Patter
This was probably recorded for the dAdAdA album, but I'm not 100% sure
about this. It's definitely a song from the first half of the '90s.Demo 1994 Dennis

(3315 kb)Robinson
This is the version of Robinson with the original lyrics, before they had
to be 'de-Paul-Simon-ized'. It also is a slightly different mix. This
version was played during a radio interview some time before Alankomaat
was released.Demo 1997 Dennis
